The research and teaching activities carried out range from experimental measurements for thermal characterization of heat transfer fluids to that of thermal characterizations of materials in general (measurement of thermal conductivity and convective coefficient). The laboratory is equipped with test benches for solar thermal panels and all the equipment for the characterization and study of nanofluids. Software and workstations allow to perform thermal and fluid dynamic calculations (Radtherm, OpenFoam, TRNSYS etc.).
The scientific activities (experimental, theoretical and numerical) are focused on energy topics and in particular:

• Sustainable buildings

• High efficiency systems in buildings

• Renewable and clean-energy technologies

• Heat transfer

• Solar energy

• High efficiency heat exchangers

• Geothermal heat pumps

• Thermo-photo-voltaic systems

• Nanofluids

• High pressure spray

• Hybrid and electric vehicles

• High Efficiency Internal Combustion Engines

• Refrigeration and cooling systems

We are available to collaborate to:

• Perform Tests (according to ASTM, ISO, EN) on solid materials and fluids, on commercial products and on experimental ones.

• Customize tests as required by companies, designers, professionals.

• Supply know-how on characteristics and properties of materials, in particular their thermal properties and behavior.

• Identify/produce innovative materials to solve specific requirements for thermal conductivity or isolation.

• Support colleagues from other disciplines and specializations in the characterization of materials used in different applications.

• Perform tests on the stability of different suspensions.

• Develop R&D projects about energy topics.
