UK tests set new record, the nuclear fusion is closer

Nuclear fusion has never been a concrete and achievable prospect as it is now.
But what happened to bring the clean energy of the future so closer? It was the experiment conducted in the European experimental reactor Jet (Joint European Torus), that imitating what happens in the heart of the stars, has generated an amount of energy of 59 megajoules for five seconds, that is the equivalent of 11 megawatts.
It may seem like a little achievement, but it is a lot, considering that until now the production of nuclear fusion energy has lasted just a few fractions of a second.

For sure, the time scale of nuclear fusion is still long, but according to the researchers, the Jet experiment will help to reduce the distances. The newly obtained energy is the double of the one they obtained 25 years ago.
"This can be considered a point in favor of the fact that we are on the right path to demonstrating full fusion power" stated Bernard Bigot, the general director of project Iter.
